GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS
Old Dominion University has established an Emergency Grant fund to assist students who have experienced an unforeseen emergency/event that has affected their ability to meet their financial obligations and remain at ODU.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- In good academic standing with required Satisfactory Academic Process (SAP). See link for SAP requirements at http://yazu.mblayst.com/finaidoffice/manage/sap
- The application must be completed in full. Incomplete applications will delay the review by the committee
- Graduate student: cumulative GPA minimum of 3.0
- Undergraduate student: cumulative GPA minimum of 2.0
- Enrolled as a degree seeking student during the semester the application is submitted.
- Able to provide sufficient documentation to support financial hardship.
- Grant does not apply to future bills/expenses.
Unforeseen emergencies could include, but are not limited to the following:
- Permanent layoff or job loss of a parent/guardian
- Your loss of job
- Accident
- Family Bankruptcy
- Death of a parent/guardian
- A major medical (life-changing) incident
Supporting documentation may include but is not limited to:
- Proof of termination/dates away from work
- Police report or medical report
- Legal document or attorney letter
- Obituary
- Letter from doctor or medical records
Only complete bills/statements are accepted that reflect:
- Company name
- Company mailing address
- You or your spouse's name
- Amount due
- Screenshots of amount due will be accepted unless the above information is included in the screenshot.
Financial obligations not eligible for payment may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Credit cards
- Medical/dental bills
- Court fees
- Lawyer fees
- Bills not in your nor your spouse’s name
- Warranties
- Late fines and collection fees
PROCESS
- Applications can take up to 2 weeks to process for committee review and up to 4 weeks for funds disbursement. Submitting complete applications with required/appropriate documentation will ensure a quicker review.
- Financial and academic records will be reviewed to determine eligilibility.
- All communications will be sent to your ODU email account.
- All decisions are final.
Grant funds will be disbursed directly to vendors/businesses. Funds do not go to students.
